Vampire books are all pretty much the same, except this one

Carpe Jugulum - book cover picture

Okay, I have this odd sence of de ja vu when I read a vampire novel, I mean if you read 3 how different can the 4th be? Not this one. It's a beautiful satire and has far too many one liners and jokes like all Terry Pratchett books to really go into. It has Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax two of the witches in Lancre driving out the vampires (sorry, vampyres)who were invited in by King Verence for his daughter's christening. Possibly my favorite bit, was when the older vampires are making fun of young vampires who wear bright clothes and stay up until noon and wear their hair short and tell people that their name is Pam or Agnes.... it's a very funny quick read. I also have a hard time thinking of it being a blow off. There are bits with Granny Weatherwax that make you feel you may have just read somethingg important.

Historical writing at its best.

Civil War: A Narrative (3 Vol. Set) - book cover picture

By concentrating on the fight instead of the politics, root causes, etc., Foote delivers the most dispassionate and best-balanced account of the civil war I've ever read. The fact that he is often accused of a "southern bias" reveals more about most other civil war histories than it does about this one. There is no preaching here, only pure history -- and the best written history you'll ever read. This is the definitive work on the civil war.

Nightjohn - book cover picture

this book was very interesting, It wasnt so captivating at first, but when the main charecters were introduced the story became very exciting. This story told about slavery on a plantation;it is told about slavery from a young slave child named sarny who was being taught to read from a man named Night john, I recommand this book to enyone whois interested in the past and how slavery life was for the blacks. If book like these werent writen, nowone would know about this life and maybe slavery still would be in affect to this day. The neat thing is the story is true and was told from a real child, Allso reading this you learn their launguadg, Well enjoy.

Business School Confidential: A Complete Guide to the Business School Experience: By Students, for Students - book cover picture

My wife and I both attended top business schools (HBS and Kellogg) and we have recommended this book to numerous friends who are applying to or starting business school. It tells the reader what we wanted to know before starting school.Great source material from many students at a wide variety of schools and written by a recent grad. Many other books just focus on getting in, but this one treats the application process as part of the larger experience from application to finding a job. I read a lot of these a few years ago, and wish this one had come out then.

Losing Julia - book cover picture

This book was without a doubt the most lyrical story I have read in recent memory. Hull manages to capture to finest details about comeraderie in the trenches, the passion of the love that got away and the angst of old age. It was a wonderful journey. Anyone who discounts the love story between Patrick and Julia did not understand the book! (And that is a tragedy in and of itself). I'd put this book on my top ten recommended list.

The Aesthetics of Rock (Da Capo Paperback) - book cover picture

Written in an age where rock critics were still in diapers and hungry for that which was R n'R, Meltzer explores the burgeoning music scene of '66-'68 and uses all the words at his disposeal to get at the heart of the great musical beast wiht as crude and delicate a knife as possible:that of a kid running through a candy store who has the ability to find what doesnt work , could work and eventually does work (on a good day). It's more unusual than a normal book with the sort of title it has, and the rock world benefits and is sadly struck dead (now, at least) with immesne amounts of tragic justice which it does/doesn't deserve. But man, I tell ya, that there music he speaks of is good for every single reason he finds. Read it if you can see what's in the typing.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE

The Nanny Diaries: A Novel - book cover picture

The Nanny Diaries is one of the funniest and entertaining books I have read in a long time. This book was just too good to put down. I read it cover to cover. After I read the last page I found myself angry. It was infuriating to me to think that this is how the upper crust treat their paid employees.
The authors have done an outstanding job keeping the reader fully engaged in "what happens next."
This is a terrific little book and I can't wait for the movie version!

The Cat Who Robbed a Bank (Cat Who...) - book cover picture

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS STORY AND THOUGHT IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE LAST ONE WHICH WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. IT WAS GREAT TO BE UPDATED WITH THE GOINGS ON IN PICKAX CITY AND RENEW OUR AQUAINTANCE WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS. THE LETTERS FROM ANNIE TO FANNY WERE AN INTERESTING INSIGHT TO QWILL'S BACKGROUND TO HIM AND READERS ALIKE. AGREED THE MYSTERY WAS MORE TRAGIC THAN MYSTERIOUS BUT THE CATS (PRIMARILY KOKO) CAME UP WITH SOME INGENIOUS CLUES AND WERE ENDEARING AND AMUSING AS EVER. MY FRIENDS, FAMILY AND PETS SHOULD BE SO ENGAGING! A VERY DELIGHTFUL AND SATISFYING READ!

Book title: Owen Foote, Frontiersman
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Owen Foote, Frontiersman - book cover picture

This book, Owen Foote, Frontiersman, was an enjoyable book because of the different events that Owen faced. These events allowed me to connect with some of the things that he encountered. Most young readers would be able to connect to having a friend like Joseph and the what Owen and Joseph encounters as frontiersman. The organization of the book was easy to follow and the sentences were easy to read and understand. There are a few pictures in black and white throughout the book, but these are not necessary but are handy for readers to connect with the event taking place. Young readers, boy or girls, that were interested in the outdoors would take a great liking to this book.
