Masterpiece of Popular Writing
Impressed by mystery

As an engineering student, I lean towards thinking of mystery as something temporary and, well, bad. The whole goal behind scientific research is to expel mystery - at least in the immediate context. Flannery O'Connor's timeless writings opened my eyes to the world beyond certainty, and I had to nod in agreement at her insightful appreciations of human quirkiness or critiques on deviatory literature teaching methods. (Of course science know uncertainty at the atomic/subatomic level, but we call that statistics.) In the end, I marvel at the little gems in this book, thoughtfully crafted by a master artist, laced with earthy truth and nitty-gritty humanness, and don't hesitate to recommend at least a library peek to anyone.

A great tool for learning to read

My 5 year old started with the "Bob" series the summer before kindergarten. By the beginning of school, he had gone through 4 out of 6 of the sets, although he still likes to go back to the eariler ones to re-read the books. He loves them and is so pleased with himself for being able to read his own books. This is a great way for young children to learn to read. I highly recommend the entire series.

I tend to perfer historical romances, but Nora Roberts does such a wonderful job with this book, and its predecessor, you can't but help but fall in love with the characters. It has all the magic of a romance novel, the lust, anger, and surprising love, along with the comfort of characters. I would recommend reading the Jewel of the Sun first, as it too is a wonderful story and provides more background for the book. An excellent way to spend any evening.

Interesting

I bought this book, read it and could pinpoint times when and persons to whom the stuff the author writes about happened. I think this book certainly is insightfull in the way it describes the 'undercurrents' of the behaviour (some) girls show when they're amongst each other or how this 'thing' is always in the background waiting to attack (so to speak). And it makes clear how this - sometimes downright cruel - behaviour affects the 'odd girls out'. I recommend this book to everyone (not just the odd girls out)!!

ANOTHER CLANCY MASTERPIECE
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Another of the great books in the Jack Ryan series The Sum of All Fears is about a nuclear bomb going off in the United States-something that has never happened before. This book, like all of his others posses several tightly woven plotlines. The best to me was John Clark, marriage counselor. The thing I found especially interesting was that Clancy finally showed a chink in the boy scout armor of Jack Ryan (he was really getting on my nerves). After reading this I can't wait to tackle Debt of Honor.
