I have searched and searched for this book for years and everywhere I looked people told me it was out of print. REJOICE, REJOICE!! I've finally found it!! A collection of stories that will take you on a magical journey through time, space, and all levels of psychological euphoria. Ray Bradbury is THE most brilliant science fiction writer of our time and this book reflects his ability to convey the very deepest emotion through what may seem at first glance like meerly words on a page. The best story in this book is "The Man".

An excellent fantasy full of wonderful characters.

Humans are usually thought of as the superior creatures to dragons and magicians. But in this book, the tables turn and humans move from the shotgun seat to the back of the bus. Dragons become invinceable creatures. Dragons have their problems too in this book: evil magicians, powers that can be stolen. We liked this book because anything could happen in this fantasy world and because there was the interesting twist that humans were inferior to all other races. We recommend this book for adventurous readers who don't feel the need for humans to be the best. The Newton Boys Reading Circle (Ben, Danny and David)

What a Masterpiece!!!

From the very first moment I opened this book, I knew it would surpass Rollins' previous works. "Deep Fathom" brought a new and more meaningful angle into the deeps of the ocean. Avoiding US sanctioned killers, discovering clues to a fallen civilization, and even saving the world from distruction, this book rivals the best in the adventure/science fiction genres. A definite must-read!

The most effective, no-nonsense dieting book I've used.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
After twenty-five years, my search for the perfect diet bookended when I came across "Smart Guide to Getting Thin andHealthy" by Katherine Colton and Michael Cader. After reading the first couple of paragraphs of the introduction, it was clear to me that this book would provide me with the balanced, common-sense guidance I'd been seeking since I started trying to lose weight as a twenty-year-old (when I finally faced the fact that I could no longer blame "baby fat" for the snug fit of my 40"-waist jeans). I've never before been able to so successfully integrate into my daily life a program put forward in a book. It's wonderful.Among the clutter of "state of the art" diet books, revolutions, breakthroughs and miracles for people trying to lose a few (or many) pounds and keep the weight off, "Smart Guide to Getting Thin and Healthy" is the real thing. It works. END

A book that captivates and engulfs the reader

As I was reading through the book, The Executioner's Song, I was engulfed into the story line to a point where I could feel the events that were hoarding the small town in Utah. At times I felt the frustrations that Gary Gilmore was feeling as he was fighting to sustain his death sentence. I got the feeling that you get when you are fighting for a worthy cause, just there was no way that I could possibly make any difference. That was a very odd feeling which in turn was the reason why I enjoyed reading the book so much.

The Best of McKinley
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This book was my first introduction to McKinley's writings. And as far as I'm concerned the best of McKinley's writings. The title story is outstanding in the beauty of the language and beauty of the story told. Truly a magical book.
It's been on my bookshelf since it was first printed (and been given as a gift to discerning readers more than once). With bookshelf space at a premium, few books that come into my house stay long unless they are worth reading more than once. Definitely a keeper.

Carl Franklin has really hit the mark with this one
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Carl Franklin shows you how to write VB programs that implement the most important Internet protocols, including Usenet News (NNTP), E-mail (SMTP and POP3), file transfer (FTP), the Web (HTTP) and more. This book includes many example programs using both the Winsock control (shipped with VB) and a third-party socket control from Dolphin Systems. To cap it off Carl provides a whole suite of objects of his own design that encapsulate each of the major Internet protocols. These objects hide all the complexity, making Internet programming with VB a lot of fun. This alone is easily worth the price of the book.Given the importance of the Internet, this book is a must-have for any serious VB programmer.

More travelogue than travel guide
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Although I think I'll have to buy another NYC travel book in order to get more detailed information about places to stay and to eat, I really enjoyed reading this. It's full of interviews with interesting New Yorkers, like Wigstock's Lady Bunny and the guy who runs the sideshows at Coney Island. There's a great section on NYC neighborhoods as well. The charming personality of the Mad Monks really comes through in their writing--you learn a lot about what they don't like (yuppies, sterile architecture, the Disneyfication of Times Square) as well as a few things about what they do (drag queens, egg creams, and Rudy Giuliani, strangely enough).

Connie Willis is an extraordinary storyteller. "To Say Nothing of the Dog" is certainly a work of science fiction, but the science fiction aspect is secondary; the characters, the events, and the situations move the tale along. This book is funny, delightful, interesting, and surprising all the way through. That it is science fiction should not stop you from discovering a lovely piece of storytelling.

One Of The Crown Jewels Of The Peterson Field Guide Series
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Written by the leading expert in his field, this is the best book on the subject. I remember when I was in college that Professor Stebbins' class was always impossible to get into because he was so popular and respected. This book is his legacy... a highly detailed book with hundreds of beautifully rendered drawings. Each drawing is meticulous and a great learning tool. This volume is one of the best of the Peterson Field Guide Series and is highly recommended for all readers, even if they never venture outside.
