A Prayer for Owen Meany - book cover picture

The best book I have ever read. There, I said it. This book has so many twisting, turning, touching and - quite simply - delightful aspects, that you will read it in less than 2 days and wonder why Irving just didn't keep writing. You are mesmerized by trying to predict Owen's next contrivance, or in wondering why some of the thoughts that come so easily to him, have never dawned on you.

But be warned - you will find yourself reading a paragraph and then thinking 'wait a minute - I need to dwell on that for a second before going on.' Irving not only makes you think and question, he also makes you laugh every other page and sets up the beautiful disaster better than any fiction writer either before him or after. I am not a prolific reviewer, but thought I would share how deeply I believe that if you read this book, you will NOT be sorry. I can say unequivocally that it will stay with you for as long as you control your mental faculties. It's that good.

The Last Detective - book cover picture

...with my hands waving up and down in the air in humble admiration of the KING of detectives, Elvis Cole and his hunka burning love side-kick, Joe Pike. You guys are da bomb. This is the best detective novel I've read in years and years, bar none. The plot moved at a lightning pace and never once slowed down. Learning about Elvis's and Joe's childhoods was an added plus to this excellent story. I cried like a baby reading about the young Elvis and the last page blew me away. I read it five times and then cried again. Thanks, Mr. Crais, for a super book. And I laughed out loud for 10 minutes after reading your remark about Katie Couric. You're a master of the genre and I love you!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!

Kane And Abel - book cover picture

This book is the best ever. The characters, you love them, you hate them. The highs, the lows, totally unbelievable. You would not believe one book could have so much power. Archer puts us right there in the novel, and you wish you could jump in the book and sort out the characters for the best. After multiple readings you wish some bits of the book would change, namely the sad parts. No other book has come close to being this much of a masterpiece, although a Matter of Honour, is as close as any book will get to being this type of masterpiece. Don't hesitate and buy this book now. Money you will not regret. I only wish I had the dedication of the characters in the novel.

Last Days of Summer - book cover picture

Yes...it's outrageous. Yes...it's an exercise in excess. Yes...it's a stretch in every sense of the word. All that said...it's a wonderful read: a story of faith, trust, pain and growth, a story that challenges your imagination and your heart. Joey is unlike any twelve year old you ever met, but then you didn't know Steve at twelve (and I did). Suspend your disbelief for the few hours it takes to inhale this book and immerse yourself in a genre mastered with delightful creativity. You will be grateful that you took the time.

A simply plot interwoven with deep biblical meanings

The Chronicles of Narnia Set - book cover picture

I first read the Chronicles of Narnia when I was in grade school. The plot and the setting held my attention and took my imagnation to the distant lands of Narnia. As I got older and my son developed an interest in the books I reread them because I remember how much I enjoyed them the first time. I was amazed by the messages they taught in an unassuming way but very affective. Interwoven with Aslan are the stories from the Bible. I am very impressed with C.S Lewis' ability to accomplish this. I think this is a must read for anyone regardless if they are religious or not

A very accurate, grueling man's account of his hitch in hell

Book title: My Hitch in Hell: The Bataan Death March

My Hitch in Hell: The Bataan Death March - book cover picture

My review is based on reading the book and my father's account, (also a former P.O.W. of the Bataan Death March), of the Death March. The book was very easy to read but very hard to put down. My wife and I read this book at the same time. We read it in record time. Mr. Tenney wrote the book in a descriptive way that left the reader feeling ill at times and angry at the Japanese for what and how they treated the prisoners. I don't know how any of the prisoners survived!! I wonder what kind of inhumane society could teach their soldiers (the Japanese) to act in such a tortureous way. I give this a five star rating.

Twelve year a whore, and I still wanted more!

Book title: Moll Flanders (Penguin Classics)

Moll Flanders (Penguin Classics) - book cover picture

This book is absolutely hilarious! Moll Flanders is a woman who loved money a bit too much and in turn was loved by many a man with money. The comedy in this book stands the test of time (at least for me) and in my opinion, the language is not as archaic and difficult to follow as one previous reviewer stated. There are some words that aren't in use today, but their meanings are pretty self-explanatory. If you love scandal, you'll love this book. This chick has baby after baby, sleeps with almost any man with money, and even marries her own brother! If Moll were around nowadays, she'd probably be on Springer! Highly recommended.

Winter King is amazing, cornwell is a master of battle

Book title: The Winter King: A Novel of Arthur (The Warlord Chronicles: I)

The Winter King: A Novel of Arthur (The Warlord Chronicles: I) - book cover picture

The Winter King is my favorite arthur book. There is not to much magic in it which i think makes it all the better. This book makes the whole arthur story very believable. The characters are astounding. he masters the essincial characters, the father, the young hero, the fare maiden in destress, the villan. Cornwell creates a great twist to the whole arthurian story, Lancelot is the long lasting villian. he is a cowerd, he is greedy, and lustful. many of the seven traits that get you to hell(according to Dante that is) thank you very much for reading my reveiw, i strongly encourage all those adventure loveing readers to pick up this book, you won't be disapointed. Nuremberg : Infamy on Trial - book cover picture

At first, I didn't care to read about the the Nuremburg trials. I said that they didn't concern me and went on. But after reading this book, I realized all that really happened in World War II. This book tugged at my heart as I read how the Jews were treated by the brutal Germans. I recommend this book strongly to any youth in America or of German descent to see what our past was and to be thankful for what we have.

Just and Unjust Wars: A Moral Argument With Historical Illustrations (Basic Books Classics) - book cover picture

This is a great book. Perhaps those with more of a political background would take away something different, but I found it to be a thoughtful look at the (moral) causes of wars and the decisions that come into play. There's always a line in the sand, but Walzer looks at when it is more acceptable to cross it and how those decisions play out. And it's also an interesting book if you are interested in the history of war but get saturated easily. I didn't find this dry.
