My kids love it!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
My daughter (2), and son (4) love to read this book. It's fun for the parents to read as well. About a year ago my son became fascinated with firefighters. We bought this book in response to that interest. Not only did they enjoy hearing about Fireman Small, but he spends all day helping his friends and therefore is a good role model as well. The illustrations are nicely done. We've borrowed "Fireman Small Fire Down Below" from the library, and although we enjoy it, it's not as good as this one.

Alanna
Rating: 5/5
Binding: School & Library Binding
Of the Song of the Lioness quartet, I personally found Alanna: the First Adventure, and the second book, In the Hands of the Goddess, the best. Although a fantasy book, Tamora Pierce completely enthralls the reader with the world of Tortall, which despite its magic and sorcery feels entirely believeable and real to even the most skeptical readers. I couldn't put the book down, and I love the adventure, action, surprises, and interesting, engaging characters. Alanna is a stubborn, exciting, energetic, and tough girl. Any athlete can identify with the training she undergoes to become a knight, which makes the book even more appealing. So read it!

Howard writes men that are to die for.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Howard writes men like I never read anywhere else. They are literally to die for. Reese Duncan, Kell Sabin, Sullivan, and always the MacKenzies. I thought Wolf was the ultimate, then came Joe! No one could be better than Joe and then came Zane. Zane was the best but i have a feeling Chance will leave him in the dust, if that is possible. The books are sensual, sexy, and sometimes really funny. Please Ms Howard, Uncle "Dance" please, please, please.

A timeless story of creativity, heartbreak and friendship
Rating: 5/5

When I was in the second grade I saw the book "Harriet the Spy" sitting on a shelf in my local library. Even though it was a bit above my reading level, I took it and went home and read it. I instantly fell in love with it and to this day, almost ten years later, I still enjoy picking it up once in a while to remember. It was Harriet's attitude towards life, writing and others that made me fall in love with the book, for she was the kind of person that I wanted to be. I can remember feeling very sad for Harriet when I was younger, because I experienced many of the same issues that she dealt with in the story. "Harriet the Spy" was a book that stayed with me all through my childhood and I know that I will read it to my kids also

Damn Funny Stuff
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
For once, the product description is on the mark: this brief book really is a "fast-paced and ruthlessly funny romp" through the boundless wasteland of shoddy thinking. I laughed aloud about a dozen times while reading it. Whyte draws his comical examples of confused reasoning from his own eccentric family, from political speeches and parliamentary debates, from advertisements and newspaper editorials, and from conversations with investment bankers. He's a born raconteur and a natural writer, for sure, but he isn't just trying to entertain you. His pungently witty anecdotes contain deftly delivered and fairly sophisticated philosophical points. Whyte's a clever tutor and his lessons are likely to stick in your memory.

Reaffirms My Belief in the Power of Correspondence
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This charming little book is a collection of letters between New York author Helene Hanff and London bookseller Frank Doel. In the course of 20 years from Hanff's first book order from Marks & Co,, till Doel's death in 1969 they connected through the mail they exchanged and built a wonderful relationship. While Hanff became friends with Doel's family and his co-workers at the bookstore, what the two had was something special, revolving around their love of literature. Despite plans to do so, the two never met as Hanff didn't make it to London until after Doel's death and the publication of the letters. This book beautifully demonstrates the power of correspondence and how two people can connect, solely by the written word.Heartwarming, funny, sad, all rolled in one. I went on to read other books by Hanff where she describes her trips to London. After reading her books, I too went on a pilgrimage to 84, Charing Cross Road.

These words have the power to change lives.

What an intrieging piece of history! This book is unlike any I've read. It portrays such understanding of humanity's personalities and quirks that it brings its reader to a point of decision: What am I going to believe about Jesus Christ? Was He truly the son of God and did He truly die to make things right between me and God... or was he a liar or just a good man? As a historical person, the dispute is not about his existance... but whether I choose to bow my knee to Him in repentance. From cover to cover, the Bible presents the history of God's interaction with His creation: His love, justice, and wisdom. Set aside your spiritual cynicism before reading this book and I think you'll be surprised with Jesus's frustration with instituted religion and hypocracy. I reccommend this book to anyone willing to re-examine their previous thoughts of God and themself. It's not for the faint of heart.

Ripping story, well told
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This book reads like a well-written detective story, with fascinating characters, unforseen plot twists, and a breezy narrative style. It is, unbelieveably, a true story, which makes it even more mind-boggling.For native Angelenos, another fascinating feature of the book is the history of the city's development. This was a formative period when city fathers were just beginning to aspire to civic greatness. Tygel has woven LA's history through the book and dropped in wonderful historical tidbits.

Fantastic Read!
Rating: 5/5

An excellent book - it grabbed me within the first two pages, and kept me intrigued until the very last word! Not one to believe everything I read (especially in a work of fiction ;), I've done some researching on my own, and applaud the author on his incorporation of verifiable facts while still maintaining the reader's sense of wonder. After finishing this one, I ran right out to buy his other books, and they are as fascinating as this one. One of my new favorite authors - I can't wait to read his next offerings!
