Monumental Epic

Why is this book one of the most controversial books of 20th century literature? Quite simply, Rand challenges the establishment ideas in virtually every area of philosophy - esthetics, politics, ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics. The overriding leitmotif is the view that individuals can achieve greatness and prosper. They can project the ideal world (esthetics) in which individuals live free (politics) to pursue happiness (ethics) by using their minds (epistemology) to understand reality (metaphysics). However, when the dominant philosophy of a culture is anti-life and anti-mind, misery may be the only prospect. The world is doomed unless a hero fights the good fight; unless the most able rise to the occasion. How is this achieved? Who is John Galt? Read the book.

This is a fascinating account of the Manson case from the eyes of prosecution attorney Vincent Bugliosi. Well paced, haunting, somewhat grissly, but suprisingly quite funny in places- (the defense attorney made over two hunderd objections on the first three days of the trial!). A real pager turner probably best read in the daytime so it won't give you nightmares. One quible though I feel the author has grossly misinterpreted the philiosophy of Friedrich Nietzche by affilating his philiosophy with the spread of Nazism. Yes Hitler (who shared with Manson many characteristic's; they were both loved animals more than humans, each a vegetarian, and had spent time as an "outsider" living on the fringes of society) had read his work. Yet those documents he read were greatly adulterated under the cursed hand of the authors sister, who, after the philosophers death re wrote his manuscripts to fit Nazi ideals in the hope of courting parties leader...

I really love she's come undone. It is the most realistic book that I have ever read. The author, Wally Lamb wrote so convincingly in the voice of a female that I find it hard to belive that he wrote it. Words cannot express how much this book means to me. I have never felt so renewed after I have read a book. I would love to read his new book if only I could get a handle on it. Yes, I may be a 19 year old actress who has spent more time on the set of Romeo & Juliet, and My so- called life, but I do know what an excellent book this is . I will be attending Yale this fall, and I will be sure to bring this book to my professers attention.I would love to express my gratitude to the writer for opening my eyes. I will never forget Dolores Price. Love Always, Claire Danes p.s- I have been looking for a web sight on this book for the longest time!! I am so glad I found you guys!!!!

My daughter gave me the Let's Go Madrid Map Guide before my husband and I left for Madrid this spring. I had given her Let's Go Europe years ago and had always regarded it as a college student's guide. But we were on a tight budget and so we brought it along. What a pleasant surprise! The maps were great and there is so much information about everything in that little booklet. And it is so nice and small -- it fit right in my purse. I loved not having to carry around a big book all the time. Best of all, the good directions saved us from having to use our awful Spanish. This is certainly a great find for anyone who plans on spending a few days in and around Madrid.

Joe Kane's perspective is extraordinarily balanced. His approach to the complex realities is balanced, despite his biases. His account is compelling and unforgettable. At the end I sensed how delicate the Huaroni's and other indigenous tribe's existence is, with sadness. And yet his final words contain hope. Kane poses the most hard-hitting questions to the right people and summarizes this difficult picture with succinct and near poetic sentences.

When I first started to read this I thought it was all make believe. This little boy had the most hope and faith anyone had ever seen. He was determined to get away from his mom that abused him. I loved this book because it had so much detail on what his mom did to him. Not many people survive to write a book about growing up mistreated. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to read appealing true stories.

Settled Things...but left me wanting more!
Rating: 5/5

This was a wonderful sequel to Both Sides of Time...it settled a lot of things from the first book, but also had some new and unique storylines as well...The development of each storyline was well thought out and portrayed.Especially the conditions at the mental institution. One thing I do wish this book had more of was enjoyable time between Strat and Annie, but I guess they did have a lot of that in the first one.I also enjoyed how the charcter of Walker Walkley was developed more in this book and the reader could feel his devious ways.I won't give away the ending, but I highly suggest reading this book, especially if you thoroughly enjoyed the first one!:)

Madeline Hunter has a rare talent for combining a compelling story, complex, believable characters, and a rich historical context. She avoids the anachronistic tendencies of most writers of historical romance--her characters ring true for the historical period they are living in--but they are people whose personalities and problems we can easily relate to in the 21st century. If you have not yet experienced the pleasure of Madeline Hunter's books, try this. You are in for a real treat!

A Depression era death row prison guard finds out that things are not always as they seem after a giant of a man is put under his charge having been convicted of murdering two small girls. No one can find fault with Mr. King's ability to write, but his choice in genres is not always mine. This book (as well as the movie)keeps the reader entranced as they fall in love the characters. A book you hate to finish as you know you will miss the characters for a long long time.Well well done.
