Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr - book cover picture

Garth Nix has done a great job of capturing the reader's mind and imagination with the book Lirael. This book is fulled with adventure, riddles and a love for the characters. Those who have read Sabriel will be very pleased with this sequel. The book contains some original things so you can recognize things from the book Sabriel but he adds new twists that will keep you wanting to read on. The book seems long when you pick it up, but take it from me it doesn't seem half that much. :)

Jurgen - book cover picture

All of JBC's books are interesting, this is among his best. Many modern readers may find his writing style unfamiar: it has quality and beauty. The themes are universal, and the sheer gnosis that the author displays is impressive. Cabell writes about the human condition, and even though we pride ourselves, in this day and age, of a certain level of cynicism, we cannot match the sardonic tone he displays, nor the depth to which his sword pierces. Much has been written regarding the Jurgen/Aleister Crowley connection, but I feel this book may indicate that Cabell really did have some practical experience with ceremonial magick after all.If you like this book, read "Something About Eve" which, I think, is actually better.

Thrones, Dominations - book cover picture

Jill Paton Walsh is to be congradulated. She has resurrected Harriet and Lord Peter and done an excellent job of it. The quotes are a little off and she makes Harriet just a shade too helpful and warm/fuzzy, (also I don't care AT ALL for the sideline about Bunter) but on the whole they live again and readers are in for a wonderful time. The plot has the authentic touch of Sayers grue, and hinges on a well seasoned red herring. THUMBS UP!

A true gem.

The Mirror - book cover picture

I read this book in two days - I couldn't put it down. It's a flip-flop, Freaky Friday kind of tale with a Grandmother and her Granddaughter changing places with each other, each being the age of 20 in each others body.

The Granddaughter is sent back to the late 1800's and has to face living as a modern woman in not-so-modern times. She is called crazy by many due to her "uncanny" ability to see into the future. At the same time, the Grandmother is transported as a 20 year old into her Granddaughter's body in the present time.

Both have to face enormous challenges living each others lives. This book is wonderful and is a true classic.

The Realm of Secondhand Souls - book cover picture

This book has poetry in its soul, and has restored my faith in the American novel. With richly fertile prose, Ms. Shea took my mind to root-crabbed, subterranean dark places, and to bright places of soul-searing brightness. What a read! Please savor this book, roll in it, bathe in it. I am a reader who often throws books down, half-finished, in disgust. And so I am very happy to have found this new novelist, Sandra Shea, and to encourage other curmudgeons of fiction to make this book their own.

The Valley of Horses - book cover picture

I started with this book in the series. When I found out that this was a series, I went out and bought the rest. The depth that the author went to was the best I have ever seen in some time. The research that went on must of taken some time. And then to weave a readable story around such things really captivates the reader. I sent these books to relatives who enjoy reading and got the same response.

Vision of the Future (Star Wars.) - book cover picture

I would like to warn any reader who wants to fully experience all the wonderful surprises and discoveries that are contained in this superb novel to AVOID SPOILERS AT ALL COSTS. Do not read or listen to any information about the contents of this book until you have read it for yourself. (Which means do not read any of the other reviews on this page; some have spoilers, and one is even 100% lies. I don't know what book that person thought they were reviewing.) Furthermore, DO NOT READ AHEAD. At times the suspense is so powerful that temptation to read ahead will be almost unbearable, but you must not fall to the Dark Side. Trust me, you'll thank me when you finish it.

Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential - book cover picture

during this busy holiday shopping season, I continually wished and prayed and believed (I could) get a better parking space at all the malls. Each day that became closer to Christmas, everytime I went shopping I parked my car closer and nearer to the mall, and finally on Christmas Eve, my prayers were answered, first spot, front row parking (and not even in the handicap spot)!!!! I truly believe in Joel Osteen, and without his guidance, encouragement and especially his book to show me the way in believing I could get a better parking spot, I would probably still be looking for my car at the mall! 2004 ended on such a great and positive note and 2005I'm telling myself I'm gonna win!!!

Bob Books Fun! Level A, Set 2 - book cover picture

My 5 year old started with the "Bob" series the summer before kindergarten. By the beginning of school, he had gone through 4 out of 6 of the sets, although he still likes to go back to the eariler ones to re-read the books. He loves them and is so pleased with himself for being able to read his own books. This is a great way for young children to learn to read. I highly recommend the entire series.
