There is no better way to delve into them than by following along with the score. For the beginning score reader, these symphonies might be too intimidating, for Tchaikovsky's orchestra is large and varied, leading to a very full page of notes. But for the brave of heart or more experienced score readers, the treasures and beauties of this music are revealed as you follow along. Dover's edition is well printed, and as always is very affordable. So dive into the pages. Discover things in the music that you never knew were there! Recommended!

Redemption Ark is another great novel from Reynolds. Just like Revelation Space and Chasm City, I've been unable to put this book down. He masterfully continues the story from Revelation Space, and delves into the histories he created in Chasm City. The characters feel like they are real, something I don't get from much sci-fi. I feel their fears and anxieties as they move through the vast distances Reynolds universe is set in. If you read Redemption Ark before Revelation Space or Chasm City however, you'll be missing out on a lot. Throughly happy with the purchase, and I await the last book in the series with great anticipation.

Lolita - a book on trial!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
There is no possible way for me to explain how much I admire and adore this book. It has infused within society a certain fear of admitting this love. I personally believe it to be a book that is terribly misjudged and criticised. I find it is usually those who have never read Lolita that make these accusations of repulsion and utter disgust. They refuse to fully anaylise the beauty and perplexity of this novel. I have no fear in saying that it is the best book that I have ever read and recommend it to everyone!

Lescroart at his best
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Audio Cassette
I'm a writer and read different genres to see what's going on. Without a doubt, John Lescroart and Steve Martini are two of the better authors out there, regardless of genere. However, their styles are totally different, both alive and vibrant. I personally think this may be Lescroart's best work to date. The way he brings Franny forward gives an added dimension to his lead character, Dismis Hardy. Also, Lescroart writes with authority about the San Francisco legal scene, which I love, and he must upset more than a few poltical/legal beagles in San Francisco.

So you read Ishmael and you thought it was amazing. Then you read My Ishmael and everything started to clear up a bit... you sort of began to understand what it was DQ was talking about. Then you read Beyond Civilization and you were like, "That's it...I've got all I need!" Before you start thinking you know what's going on, read The Story of B. For in this book is where it all is. It is truly the 'nail in the coffin'. I sometimes think you could do away with all the others and still get it with The Story of B. But I challenge you, the reader, to do this. Read Ishmael, read My Ishamael, read Beyond Civilization and then hammer that nail in the coffin with The Story of B.

How to be graceful when peeved...
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The only cons I've ever been to are FoxPro Dev Cons (the other kinds do sound fun, though), BUT I have over the years endured other vagaries of our times, and I have to say that Sharyn McCrumb's Bimbo and Zombie novels, particularly, though also the Elizabeth McPherson novels, offer a perfect model for how to deal with one's own impulses towards inarticulate peevishness in the face of ... well, all sorts of quirks and foibles that humanity is heir to. McCrumb's solution, of course, is to laugh at the silliness. It's a wonderful antidote.

Language of the Snow Leopard
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This is a book about a search, for many things besides the elusive snow leopard of the title. I bought two copies of this book, one to keep at home and one at the office. It's that good. The tale itself is one of interest to me. I learned much about the Himalayas and about the religion and culture of the people who dwell in those mountains. But, as a writer myself, the true wealth of the work is in the beautifully elegant language. I've marked off numerous passages of absolutely brilliant description or metaphor, and I return again and again to them as I try to create my own prose. I can't recommend The Snow Leopard highly enough.

A wonderful book! Finally, I have conquered my math block.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
An excellent book! I credit this book, when used along with a college course about math anxiety, with removing my lifelong (40 yrs) math block. Now I know that I'm just as smart as anyone else who can do math -- there are just different ways to look at it! And now that I no longer view math as "hard", I can actually do it -- and I am amazed to say that I actually enjoy it! By the way, although the book may sound specifically aimed at females, I am a male and found it very relevant and helpful.
